Abstract: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrinopathy that affects many women of reproductive age and is caused by genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors. It is believed that overweight/obesity stands out in relation to the most frequent nutritional profile among women affected by PCOS, being one of the conditions responsible for the worsening of the syndrome's aspects and that, from a healthy diet, it is possible to control the symptoms. Thus, the objective was to investigate the importance of adequate nutrition in polycystic ovary syndrome and its relationship with the appearance of associated complications. It was a bibliographic review which is based on the evaluation of recent or current literature, with articles taken from the following databases: SCIELO, LILACS, PUBMED, BIREME and Science Direct, using descriptors indexed in the databases Descriptors in Sciences of Health (DeCS). It was observed that the use of nutritional therapy and food supplementation is a preventive and beneficial strategy in terms of risk factors for PCOS and that the most frequent factors listed were overweight/obesity and insulin resistance, which are closely associated factors and determinants for the onset of complications.
