Comorbidades e complicações no Diabetes tipo 2: neuropatia periférica

Resumo

O Diabetes Mellitus (DM) é uma síndrome com múltiplas causas, caracterizada pela insuficiente secreção de insulina ou resistência à sua ação, e sua prevalência global está aumentando. O Diabetes Tipo 2 (DM2) é poligênico e multifatorial, com a hiperinsulinemia frequentemente precedendo a resistência à insulina. A neuropatia periférica diabética (NPD), uma complicação comum do DM, afeta até 50% dos pacientes e pode causar dor, perda de sensibilidade e outras complicações graves, gerando custos significativos para o sistema de saúde. Este artigo visa explorar a relação entre Diabetes Tipo 2 e NPD, começando com uma visão geral do DM2, incluindo definição, fatores de risco e impacto na saúde. Em seguida, foca na NPD, detalhando sintomas, diagnósticos e tratamentos, para proporcionar uma compreensão integrada dos desafios e manejos associados. Consiste em uma revisão qualitativa e descritiva sobre as comorbidades e complicações do Diabetes Tipo 2, com foco na neuropatia periférica. A busca foi realizada nas bases SciELO e PubMed, usando os termos “Type 2 Diabetes” AND “Peripheral Neuropathy”. Foram incluídos artigos originais, gratuitos e em português, publicados nos últimos dez anos, enquanto trabalhos incompletos ou repetidos foram excluídos. O DM2 é uma doença metabólica crônica complexa, influenciada por fatores genéticos, ambientais e de estilo de vida. Seu desenvolvimento gradual pode levar a complicações graves, como retinopatia, nefropatia e neuropatia diabética, que sobrecarregam os sistemas de saúde devido aos altos custos associados. A NPD é uma complicação comum, causando dor e disfunção que afetam a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Tratamentos atuais para a NPD, como amitriptilina e pregabalina, oferecem alívio limitado, destacando a necessidade de novas opções terapêuticas. A pesquisa deve focar no desenvolvimento de melhores estratégias de diagnóstico e tratamento para reduzir o impacto do DM2 e suas complicações.
